Copley and American Lung Association Collaborate EffortsFor Immediate Release04/21/2008
Two important resources, Copley Hospital and the American Lung Association, have teamed up to offer a workshop for adults living with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, sleep apnea and other forms of lung disease and breathing disorders. Better Breathers Support Network, a monthly support group, allows participants to share stories of their experiences of living with lung disease and/or breathing disorders and provides an opportunity for participants to connect with others in the community. Each meeting will be facilitated by Copley Respiratory Therapist Steve Cothalis and a guest speaker, and includes an educational component including tips on how one can better manage the disease.
For example, when traveling, people with lung disease have extra considerations to take into account. People who regularly need supplemental oxygen, such as those with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), need to plan for mobility – how to get from one place to another between refills. Or, when traveling by plane, people with lung disease who don’t necessarily use oxygen at home may require in-flight oxygen because the air pressure in an airplane cabin is lower during flight than on the ground. These are just some of the tips one can pick up by participating in Copley Hospital’s Better Breathers Support Network.
The support group meets the second Wednesday of each month beginning May 14th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Copley Hospital in the Board Conference Room, first floor near the Emergency Department. Although the offering is free, registration is suggested by calling Steve Cothalis at 888-8637.
