COPLEYHOSPITAL AND NURSES UNION SIGN THREE YEAR CONTRACT
05/30/2008
Morrisville – Copley Hospital and the United Nurses and Allied Professionals Local 5109 have reached an agreement on a new three year labor contract for Copley’s nurses. A tentative agreement was reached on May 20, and confirmation made on Thursday, May 29, that union members approved the three-year agreement.
“Our nurses play a critical role in helping Copley Hospital deliver quality patient care,” says Rick Watters, Senior Director of Patient Services. “We are very pleased to have reached an agreement that acknowledges their excellent work.”
“Healthcare is dynamic,” explains Sue Lucas, RN and President of Copley UNAP. “In negotiations with the current administration, we saw responsiveness on the part of both parties to work together to address changing needs.”
The new contract is effective May 30, 2008 through May 29, 2011. Key features of the new contract include a cost of living wage increase; improved professional development opportunities; and tight restrictions regarding mandatory overtime and rest periods.
These negotiations began April 15 and concluded on May 20 with the parties’ tentative agreement. Both Watters and Lucas cited hard work, respect, and a commitment on both sides to patient care and patient safety as key factors in reaching an agreement so quickly.
