
Copley Kicks off New Year with Variety of Wellness ProgramsFor Immeidate Release01/11/2010
What was your New Year’s resolution? Did it include quit smoking? Perhaps you’ve made a commitment to learn how to live a healthier life while you deal with a chronic health condition? Copley Hospital’s Wellness Center is pleased to offer the following programs to help community members reach their wellness goals. Programs available include smoking cessation, workshops for people living with a chronic health condition, including diabetes, as well as first aid classes. Fresh Start – “Quit Smoking” class Let Copley’s Quit Smoking Coaches help you successfully kick the habit. This four-week program, starting January 21st, begins with understanding why you have an addiction and explores a variety of strategies to help you quit. You’ll focus on mastering the first few days, overcoming weight gain and other obstacles, and most importantly, staying quit and enjoying it forever. Nicotine Replacement Therapy will be provided to participants. These one-hour classes will be held at Copley Hospital from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Healthier Living Workshop
Would you like to change your life for the better? This class is for people who suffer from a chronic health condition, as well as for family, friends and caregivers who provide care for someone chronically ill. The class will teach you how to deal with fatigue and pain, exercise for maintaining and improving strength, managing medications, improve nutrition and more. Those who have completed this program report many benefits; including increased energy, less stress, more self-confidence and fewer doctor visits. This six-week Wednesday morning program, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., begins January 27th.
Living Well with Diabetes
Diabetes is not like other health problems. For one thing, it doesn’t go away. So much of the day to day treatment is in your hands, which means education is the best medicine for living well with diabetes. This four-session morning workshop, scheduled for January 28th, February 18th, March 11th and April 1st, addresses what to do next – the basics of taking care of yourself, living successfully with diabetes, managing your blood sugars through better nutrition and medications and exercise. Classes are scheduled to be held at Copley Hospital from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Upcoming Life Skills Classes
AARP Driver Safety Refresher Class – This one day, four-hour class helps drivers 50 years of age, or older, improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. The January 26th class begins at 9:00 a.m.
CPR Refresher Class – This American Heart Association basic life support course covers adult, child and infant CPR. This refresher class is scheduled for January 26th at 6:30 p.m. at Copley.
First Aid – This community-based class meets OSHA, state and employer requirements for individuals to possess knowledge of immediate first aid. The date for this class is February 8th at 5:30 p.m.
Fostering a Healthy Workplace with Workplace Wellness
For our local employers Copley’s Wellness Center provides a program that helps reduce employee injury, boost morale, improve productivity and control increasing health care costs. Our Workplace Wellness program also benefits employees through screenings and health assessments providing information and 1:1 coaching that encourages them to make healthier choices.
