Early Bird Special for Copley ScrambleFor Immediate Release04/19/2010
A good Saturday: 18 holes of golf with friends, a pre-tournament reception, barbecue lunch, a chance to win prizes, and more importantly, a tax deductible gift to support your local hospital. Copley Hospital volunteers hope you’ll spend Saturday, July 17 that way, playing in the annual Copley Scramble. This year, the Scramble is moving to a Saturday and to the Copley Country Club in Morrisville. There is also an Early Bird Special: register by May 30th for a discounted rate. Registration is available online at copleyvt.org or by calling the hospital’s Community Relations Office at 888-8302. You can also find information on Facebook; Copley Scramble co-chair Polly Manosh has created a Facebook page for the event and included a link to the registration form.
Manosh explains that the event is for golfers of all levels and experience with a guaranteed good time to be had by all. It is played by mixed foursomes (A,B,C and D players) using a scramble format – a format that balances the overall field handicap. Manosh, along with John and Millie Merrill, coordinate the pairing of teams and make every attempt to honor golfers’ requests for specific team mates. “Our goal,” says Manosh, “is to ensure that every team has an even chance at winning.”
In addition to prizes for the lowest overall team score, designated hole-in-one prizes will be awarded courtesy of McMahon’s Chevrolet. Specialty prizes awarded to the longest drive and nearest to the pin are courtesy of area businesses.
The Copley Scramble actually kicks off the night before, on Friday, July 16 at 6pm with a reception and Calcutta. The Club House is the place to be as each team is announced and the comparing of handicaps, strategizing and bidding and out-bidding of teams commences. The inclusion of ‘wild card’ teams means anyone can be a winner.
Player fees range from $125 for one player to $1,250 to sponsor a team of four players. Register by May 30th and save: Early Bird registration costs only $99 for one player. A Party Package (pre-tournament evening reception and awards ceremony and lunch only) is available for $40.
The Copley Scramble has been a highlight of the golfing season since 1987 and a key fundraiser for the hospital. Last year’s event contributed more than $13,000.00.
Copley Hospital is Lamoille County’s non-profit community hospital, providing excellent primary care, women’s and children’s health services, emergency services, general surgery and orthopedics, along with a state-of-the-art Cancer Care program, Pain Management, and access to a variety of medical specialists on its campus in Morrisville.
